1860 Census

David Dodge, 59 and a mason, with real estate valued at $2,500 and a personal estate of $175, lives in Wiscasset, Lincoln, Maine next to his brother, George Dodge. His household includes Victoria Dodge [his second wife], age 42; Francis L Dodge, 14; Emma F Smith, 12; and Frederick Smith, 3. Francis and Emma are attending school. All household members are born in Maine.

This census indicates that Victoria was married first to a Smith, and that David and Victoria were married less than 3 years before 1860. It also appears that Frederick Dodge, 8 months old in 1850 (See Family:David Dodge and Margaret Unknown (1)), must have died before 1860.

1870 Census

David Dodge, 70, is a brick mason living in Wiscasset, Lincoln, Maine. His real estate is valued at $1,500. His household includes Victoria Dodge, 51, keeping house; David Dodge, 29, a silver plater, whose real estate is valued at $500; and Frederick Dodge, 13, attending school. Presumably Frederick is Frederick Smith, from Victoria's first marriage [see 1860 census notes], who has taken his stepfather's surname. All household members were born in Maine.
