    State of Vermont / Windham County Ss } Be it Remembered that at Stratton Nineth Day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand Eight hundred & one Daniel Shepardson of Royalston & County & County [sic] of Worcester and Commonwealth of Massachusetts and Miss Prudence Cooke of Stratton in the County of Windham and State of Vermont was Duely Joyned in Marrage by me. Samuel [Boutill?] Justic Peace. The above [Notice?] was Received and Recorded May the 9. 1802 Tho's Lothrop { Town Clerk
    [Also, p. 6: "This May Certify that Mr Daniel Shepardson of [blank] and Miss Prudy Cook of Stratten was Published in Strattan as the Law Directs July 5th 1801. Tho's Lothrop } Town Clerk." Also note that Source:Vermont, United States. Vital Records, 1760-1954, which are cards made by the town clerk from town records by law in early 1900s here, has copied this wrong, i.e., as 9 Sep 1807 instead of 1801. We know this is wrong because children born before 1807. Further it would be understandable if the date was written as a number, but in the original it is written as a word and even with the bad handwriting is clearly is not seven, but is one, so one must presume they made the card from a copy that had been converted to a number.]
