Bethel Township Historical Society Announcement May 12, 2007 2:00 PM Daughters of the American Revolution plaque dedication ceremony, honoring the Revolutionary War service of Dan Wright Senior, great grandfather of the Wright Brothers.

When the American Colonies declared their independence in 1776, Dan Wright Senior's ancestors had been in America for over one hundred years. In 1777 at the age of twenty Dan Wright volunteered to serve with the Connecticut Militia in the War of Independence. He was in service with the Connecticut Militia in the Battles of Saratoga and Bemis Heights in the early stages of the war. After the war he married Sarah Freeman, worked as a carpenter and farmer, and raised a family in Vermont. In 1814 Dan and Sarah Wright brought their family to Ohio to settle, setting the stage for the legacy of the Wright Brothers and Ohio's mantle of Birthplace of Aviation. Dan and Sarah Wright lived out their latter years in Bethel Township, Miami County, Ohio

Bethel Cemetery, Troy Pike Rt. 202 (2.0 miles north of I-70)
