If James is properly associated with this family, it is possible that James and Amos were twins where only one survived to maturity. The birth date discrepancy could be due to a couple of things (the days figure in the record of James' death could be a 9 instead of a 3, which would put his birth at 13 Oct), but if the discrepancy is correct or less, twins can sometimes (though rarely) be delivered a few days apart. The larger the discrepancy, the more likelihood that the second birth will come with complications.

    Everyone in household was white. The family lived on a farm they owned (farm schedule 94).
