Naturally, one would not expect Lt. Charles to have a second son named Charles, so this birth record of a son named Charles in 1686 clearly appears to belong to this Charles, the just-noted son of Lt. Charles. However, the nearly 10 year gap before the next child is striking. One looks at this and wonders if there was a first wife other than Elizabeth who was the mother of Charles the son. The first birth record in 1686 does not name the mother, but the birth and death records of the other children from 1695-1708 all name the mother as Elizabeth.
