The consensus seems to be that the "Alice Wormwood" who married Beriah Smith was Alice Small, widow of an unknown Mr. Wormwood. Per Source:Underhill, Lora Altine Woodbury. Descendants of Edward Small of New England, p. 1:102, says that Francis Small, Jr., in his will dated 22 Aug 1709, remembered his "Sister Alice Wormwood". That he bequeathed to a sister, even though he had a wife and children, suggests she was lacking in support, consistent perhaps with being a widow. This will is witnessed by Beriah Smith, and so the above conclusion is naturally suggested, since the marriage record in Truro shows Beriah marrying Alice Wormwood in 1711. Source:Davis, Walter Goodwin. Ancestry of Annis Spear, 1775-1858, of Litchfield, Maine, p. 113, says "Alice Small m. a Wormwood ... on April 19, 1711, she married Beriah Smith". Source:Torrey, Clarence Almon. New England Marriages Prior to 1700, p. 841 agrees. References
