Bernhardt Eckman, one of the best known young business men in Southern St. Lawrence county, died this morning at his home in this village. For the past six weeks he had been confined to his home with rheumatism, finally developing into dropsey from which he died. Mr. Eckman was born in Gouverneur forty-two years ago, the oldest sone of Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Eckman. For the past twenty-five years he was connected with the Van Duzer Manufacturing Company, having charge of the retail furniture store which the company maintained in the Union Hall Block. About twelve years ago he was united in marriage to Miss Hattie Rickerson, daughter of the late CVharles Rickerson. He was a prominent member of the Odd Fellow. Besides his widow and one sone, he is survived by his father and mother; one sister, Miss Clara, and one brother, Morris, superintendent of the Gouverneur marble quarries. The arrangements for the funeral have not been made but it will proably occur Friday afternoon.
- ↑ According to the Edes MS, they were married in Syracuse
