  1. The birthdates of the children as recorded in Plymouth VRs are impossible (since the same dates are seen in published VRs, p. 30, and in the transcript found in MD, p. 3:122, so apparently not a transcription issue). The problem centers around Mary. If her birth, nominally "January ye 16th 1700" is interpreted as 1699/00, it is only 7 months after John. If is interpreted as 1700/01, it is only 5 months before Margaret. Several speculations are possible, but in Source:Jacobus, Donald Lines. Waterman Family, p. 35, John's birth is said to be an "error for 1698", i.e., allowing Mary to be 1699/00. This makes John too close to Lydia, so Lydia's birth says "error for 1696", which works. No explicit explanation is given but this seems to be based on the ages at death from the gravestones of both John (82nd year, so 81, death in Jan 1780 means born before Jan 1699, i.e., in 1698) and Lydia (48 y. 8 m. 25 d. from 15 Aug 1745 calculates to about 21 Nov 1696).

The births of Elkanah and Moses are too close together. The Waterman Genealogy mildly suggests ("error for 1705?") moving Moses from 1704 to 1705, but his age at death, in 89th year, so age 88 in Feb 1792 suggests this may not be correct. There is room to move Elkanah forward, as his recorded birth is about 2 1/2 years after the previous child, Margaret. No record of his death has been found to see if this is supported by his age at death.
