"Mitchell's History of Bridgewater, Mass., published in 1840, contains many serious errors in the pages devoted to the Washburn family ... The probate and land records of Plymouth County contain conclusive proof that the Benjamin Washburn who married Bethiah Kingman was the son of Samuel and not the son of Jonathan." [No real details are given in this 1917 article, but a good summary may be found at this excellent website, including the volumes and page numbers where the referenced documents occur. Apparently even some modern sources, which should be aware of this research, are still matching the various Benjamin Washburn's to the wrong wives.]
