Marriage is Intended Between Benjamin Simonds and Hannah Lewis Both of this town June the 30 1775.

  2.   This marriage is assumed be Benjamin Simonds Jr. for two reasons: because the child Hannah is born 13 years after Benjamin Simonds Sr. previous child, and because that is what Allred says on p. 251. But it may be Benjamin Simonds Sr.
Why is the current presentation unsatisfactory? Benjamin Jr. in his will names daughter Lucinda as his eldest daughter. His alleged daughter Hannah was still alive and should have been the oldest. Instead, she is not even named in his will. This strongly suggests Hannah was not his daughter. Benjamin Sr does not appear to have a probate file. Other than the Hannah that is doubtful, none of Benjamin Jr.'s children are recorded. Neither the intentions to Hannah Lewis nor the birth of daughter Hannah identify the father as Jr or Sr, so it appears to be merely assumption (not unreasonable, but not based on evidence) by Allred to identify the father as Benjamin Jr.
Allred shows the daughter Hannah twice, once under Benjamin Jr. and Hannah Lewis, and once again (presumably an error) under Benjamin Sr. and wife Sarah Wilson. The entry under Benjamin Jr. is said to have married Nathaniel Mayo, the other Hannah shows no marriage. It is clear that Hannah was not the daughter of Sarah Wilson since her mother Hannah is named in the birth record, but what if Sarah died, and Benjamin Sr. married yet again to a younger woman named Hannah Lewis and had a child? This would make Sarah Whipple Benjamin Jr.'s only wife, not his second wife.
The death record of Hannah Mayo in Burlington VT in Apr 1867 gives her age as 90 y. 5 m. which works out to about Nov 1776 and her gravestone calls her Hannah Simonds wife of Nathaniel Mayo and her birthplace is in Massachusetts. It appears she is the Hannah Simonds born 27 Oct 1776, it is just not clear which Benjamin is her father.
The mother has not been identified with any confidence. She may be Hannah, sister of Seth Lewis who married in Warwick? No probate has been found for her father.
    More research is needed.
