To the Town Clerk of Warwick Be it known that on the twelveth day of December Eighteen Hundred & Thirty one I joined in Marriage Mr Benjamin Merriam and Miss Polly Carter. Warwick December 12th 1831. Jonathan Blake. [Also, Vol. 1, p. 231: Mr Benjamin Merriam of New Salem Entered his Intentions of Marriage with Mrs Polly Carter of Warwick } November 26th A.D. 1831.]
↑Source:Allred, Marilyn. Town of Warwick, Franklin County, Massachusetts, Genealogical Records 1739-1900, Births, Marriages,, p. 53, shows Polly dying 1816 as wife of Benjamin Carter, and her daughter Mary "possibly" marrying Benjamin "Merriman". The death record of Benjamin Merriam's wife clearly lists her parents as William and Lucy Burnett so this is clearly all wrong. The basis for Allred's alleged death date in 1816 is unknown and not found - though it is suspected that it is a misreading of Benjamin's death record in Warwick VRs at age 32, the same age Allred gives for Polly, and changing the date from 31 May 1814 to 31 May 1816 to match the age at death (error upon error).
