Mary's maiden name might be Hunt. Besides being listed as Mary H. Reed in two censuses, the son Arthur named his father's mother as Mary Hunt on the death certificate. Since the mother's maiden name was Mary Minot, and the son Arthur knew this, himself naming a daughter Mary Minot Reed, this might have been the obvious slip-up of giving his mother's maiden name instead of his grandmother's? If this is so, since her birth is listed as Aug 1849 in the 1900 census, and her birthplace as Bridgewater on her son's birth record, she would appear to be Mary Carver Hunt, d/o Caleb S. Hunt and Sarah Reed. If so, she would be her husband's cousin, once removed: Arthur <- Caleb <- John and Hannah -> John -> Sarah -> Mary.
