- ↑ That his second wife was named Frances is clear from the census records. Her birthplace is listed as Massachusetts, so it seems unlikely she is the Frances A. Smith that married a Andrew P. Conant on 20 Dec 1854 in Jefferson County, Indiana (see here), though the date seems to fit. There are signs (see here) that another Andrew P. Conant, a merchant/miller, not a shoe and leather dealer, lived in Indiana.
