Ale left his 1st wife, Milly (by whom he had probably five children), c.1809 in Campbell County, Tennessee, and began living with Elizabeth Young (by whom he eventually had probably another seven children). The identity of the mother of two of the middle children is uncertain. Ale was in Fentress County, Tennessee, in the 1830 census, then moved with his son, Emanuel, to Greene County, Indiana, in the fall of 1831. In April 1836 -- about twenty-five years after they separated -- Milly relented, traveled to Indiana, and gave Ale his divorce. Ale and Elizabeth were married three days later.
