1777. By the Rev. Mr. Moses Everett. Capt. Abraham Wheeer & Mrs. Jane Capen both of Dorchester Sepr. 25th. 1777.
Source:Hayden, Charles Albert. Capen Family : Descendants of Bernard Capen of Dorchester, Mass, p. 46, says a record "purporting to be" her gravestone says: "Jane Capen daughter of Jonathan and Jane Capen m. .... Baker. She was b. 14 Oct 1739, d. 9 March 1826 aet 86." If this is a true gravestone (it seems somewhat wordy for a gravestone), she is the daughter of Jonathan Capen and Jane Houghton. No such birth record is found. At least a couple of websites assume the birth found in Dorchester records on 5 Jun 1739 to Jonathan and Jane Clap is her, but this is Jonathan Clap & Jane Tucker, and appears to be somebody else (Jane Clap m. 1759 Ebenezer Bird, see NEHGR, p. 25:28). There is a record for a marriage in Dorchester on 2 Feb 1790 of John Baker and "Mrs. Jane Wheeler". It seems a long time to wait before remarrying for a woman widowed after less than a year of marriage, but it seems in general agreement with the purported gravestone.
