Their story
Dan and Ella met and married in Mitchell County Texas. They immediately left for Wood County, Ohio. Daniel was from Ohio and his father Aaron had purchased a farm for them. Their first son Harvey was born there. But, they soon decided to return to Texas. Daniel worked with cattle in Texas. 6 1898-1903, Dan was superintendant of the Curry Comb ranch 6,7 in Crosby County, Texas. The family lived in Garza County, Texas in 1900. 8 In 1903, they moved to the farm on Lone Wolf Creek which is east of Colorado City, Texas in Mitchell9 Grandma said the dust storms would blow so hard that sand would blow right through the closed glass windows. There were 13 children in all. Texas was a rough place and the big ranches didn't like people settling on farms. Even though Daniel was an old cattle man, his farm was not welcome. They were threatened more than once. Daniel was found hung in his barn in 1917. This picture was taken shortly before he died. 10 Ella was left to raise 13 children by herself.11

Notes
- I checks every census. They only appear on the 1880, Mitchell Coounty census. They must not have liked census takers.
- Grandma said some of the grandparents didn't speak speak English, but I don't know which ones.
