The List

There does not seem to be an surviving list of passengers of the Concord that arrived in Philadelphia in 1683, bearing the Thirteen Original Germantown Families. There are published lists purporting to be the ship list, (e.g, International Ship Transcribers Guild] provides such a list. Such lists, however, appear to be reconstructions based on the identification of the Original Thirteen Families, all of whom are believed to have come on the Concord. Other passengers, such as James Clayton, and his household, are known to have arrived on the Concord but did not settled in Germantown. We know of them not because an original passenger list has survived, but because we have other documentation for them. In the case of James Clayton, there is a voluminous record of the letters he sent, describing in part his voyage on the Concord.
