This page is specifically intended to capture information on animal breeds that would have been present in Colonial Virginia, these being the animals that the early settlers of southwest Virginia would likely have brought with them into the area.

From Colonial Williamsburg Rare Breeds species list

Leicester Longwool Sheep were developed in the 1700's in Leicesster, England, by Robert Bakewell. They were soon imported to America, though it seems unlikely that this particular variety could have arrived soon enough to have made it into Southwest Virignia.
