Clifford R. Hosler Obituary

Cliff HOSLER died Monday, Dec. 13, 1999, at his home in Charlevoix, Mich.

He was born Jan. 19, 1926, in Detroit, to Emma LEIMBACH and Dewey Watson HOSLER. He was raised in East Jordan, where as a child he contracted a serious bone disease, Osteomyelitis. After 19 surgeries, he fully recovered, graduating from East Jordan High School. He was active in school music and drama programs and enjoyed being the projectionist at the Temple Theater in East Jordan.

He married Margaret “Maggie” MOSHER at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church April 10, 1948. Soon after, they moved downstate, where they settled in (Dearborn Heights and then) Northville, Mich.

Cliff was employed for 30 years as a Senior Process Engineer at General Motors Hydromatic Plant in Ypsilanti. He retired to Charlevoix in 1988 and was the plan reviewer for Charlevoix County Building Department for several years.

Cliff was loved and admired for his outstanding moral integrity. He will be dearly missed for his sensitive nature, wonderful outlook on life, and sense of humor.

His family was the most important thing in his life. He taught them many things including how to sail. They were a familiar sight in his sailboat, the “Sea Hoss”, in the waters of Charlevoix. He participated in numerous Beaver Island races and the Duke Memorial Races.

Both his children and grandchildren remember fondly the bedtime stories he made up called “Curly Tails”, (about a squirrel and his woodland friends, Ranger Dan, Bent Tail, Curly Tail, Sam Sneed, Black Bear, Brown Bear, Viola the Yellow Bird and many more)

He is survived by his wife, Maggie, of Charlevoix, and their children, Mark, Nelda (HOSLER) MORRISON McClenaghan, Vena (HOSLER) NORTON, Greg, Jeff and their families. Cliff has 10 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Cliff is also survived by a sister, Bonnie (HOSLER) COOK, of Lansing, and cousin, Howard HOSLER, of East Jordan.

He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

A private family memorial was held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Charlevoix County Hospice, 601 Bridge St., East Jordan, Mich. 49727.
