EAGLEHAWK POLICE COURT.
Thursday, 31st May.
(Before Mr M'Lachlan, P.M.)

So Like It's Papa.—Frank Balderstone was brought up, having been arrested on warrant, at Talbot, on the 28th, charged with disobeying an order of the court in neglecting to support his child.
Prisoner stated that he was married to the mother of the child, who had left him. He had already two children and himself to keep on 30s a-week. The child, for the maintenance of which he was summoned, was not his on the woman's own admission. The Police Magistrate said that there could be no doubt from the cast of the child's countenance that the father was a Maori. However, as the woman was Balderstone's wife, he was responsible for the support of the child. The case was remanded until Monday.
