Genealogy (3 v., typewritten) and research materials relating to the Bennett family of Massachusetts, New York, Rhode Island, and Virginia and its allied lines of Atkinson, Brown, Clough, Conant, Horton, Peck, Royce, Spencer, Whitman, and 55 additional families; corrrespondence pertaining to Fairbanks's research; scattered family papers including certificates and deeds to properties in Abington, Bridgewater, and East Bridgewater, Mass.; and 145 photos, chiefly daguerreotype and tintype portraits. Includes diary (1841-1843) of John A. Conant (1820-1845), pharmacist, of East Bridgewater, Mass., describing his employment and social activities; and photographic scenes of East Bridgewater and Andover, Mass. Persons represented include Joseph, Mary, and Woodbridge Brown, Sarah A. Conant, Benjamin H. Horton, Nathaniel Howe, and Asa and Daniel Whitman.

Genealogist

Bennett family genealogist, of Scituate, Mass. Dorothy K. Fairbanks (1919- ) began her active genealogical research in 1935. A busy housewife since 1953, she nevertheless increased her research pace in the 1960's. She became a member of NEHGS in 1966, transferring to a life membership two years later. Most of the present material was generated during this period.
