Wragby is an ecclesiastical parish originally situated on the edge of Osgoldcross Wapentake, with part of the parish in Staincross Wapentake. It is 4 miles southwest of Pontefract, and 5 miles southeast of Wakefield.

It included the townships (later civil parishes) of West Hardwick, Hessle with Hill Top, Huntwick with Foulby and Nostell, Ryhill and Winterset.
