Ogmore and Garw was a geographically large urban district made up of the civil parishes of Betws Tir Iarll, Llangeinor and Llandyfodwg in Glamorgan, Wales. This included the area known as Ogmore Vale. With the changes of administration in 1974 and 1996, this area has undergone changes in name and is often, though possibly not officially, called Ogmore Valley.

When Urban Districts were first introduced in England and Wales in 1894 they were usually named after the local municipality (generally a civil parish) and covered the same area. When the historic counties were abolished in 1974 the local municipalities continued to exist, the description "urban district" disappeared.

WeRelate allows a single box for all titles or description types of a municipality. In the case of Urban Districts this does not really work. Once a municipality has been transferred to a Preserved County or a Unitary Authority with a different name, the name of the municipality usually remains the same, but the description "urban district" no longer applies.

There is really very little detail for family historians to be found in urban district records unless land transactions are being dealt with. Most historical records for all parts of a county are now held in a central repository.

NOTE: When recording the location of family history events always use the name of the original settlement (ancient parish, civil parish, etc.) rather than the urban district unless you are recording a land transaction and have used records referring to the urban district.
