Leekfrith was a township in the ancient parish of Leek and a civil parish from 1866. It was part of Leek Rural District from 1894 until 1974 and since 1974 has been located in the Staffordshire Moorlands District. It is located directly to the north of the town of Leek. The village of Meerbrook, mentioned below, is descibed in Wikipedia and is redirected here.
A 19th century description
A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Leekfrith from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:
- "LEEK-FRITH, a township and a sub-district in Leek parish and [registration] district, Stafford[shire]. The township includes part of Leek town; extends thence to the N; contains a considerable village of its own name; and contains also the church of Meerbrook. Real property: £7,360. Population: 763. Houses: 150.
The [registration] sub-district contains also three other townships. Population: 1,790. Houses: 362.
