Bartibog is located on the Bartibog River, 6.57 km west-northwest of Winston in Newcastle Parish, Northumberland County. It was settled by Scottish immigrants in 1812 and later Irish immigrants about 1822. In 1815 Alexander MacDonald constructed a stately Georgian-style home here which today is recognised as an historic building. It had a post office 1857-1959. In 1866 Bartibog was a farming and lumbering community with about 87 families including 6 Corcoran, 7 McMahon and 7 Russell families. In 1871 the community and surrounding district had a population of 200. In 1898 Bartibog had 1 post office, 1 store, 1 hotel, 1 church and a population of 100. (Source:Place Names of New Brunswick)
