Hesleyhurst
A Vision of Britain through Time provides the following description of Hesleyhurst from John Marius Wilson's Imperial Gazetteer of England and Wales of 1870-72:
- "HESLEY-HURST, a township in Rothbury parish, Northumberland; 3½ miles SE of Rothbury. Acres: 659. Population: 39. Houses: 8. Coal and ironstone are found."
Hesleyhurst was a township in the ancient parish of Rothbury and became a separate civil parish in 1866. From 1894 until 1955 it was part of Rothbury Rural District. In 1974 rural districts were abolished and Hesleyhurst became part of the Alnwick District until 2009 when Northumberland became a unitary authority. Hesley Hurst or Hesleyhurst remains as a civil parish today.
