In addition, The State Register, Comprising an Historical and Statistical Account of Louisiana, published 1855, prepared December 1854, includes a notice in the advertisement section, for: "Lane and Lacey, Attorneys at Law, New Orleans and Baton Rouge, John Jay Lane, New Orleans, W.J. Lacey, Baton Rouge".

    William J. Lacey appears as a student of both the College of Louisiana and Centenary College. He apparently attended both before and after the 1845 transition, but apparently did not graduate.

    Okolona, Miss, Dec. 29. - Hon. W. J. Lacey died at Okolona yesterday in the 65th(?) years of his age, after a brief illness. Mr. Lacey was reared at Jackson, La., and finished his education at Centenary College, of that place, being a college mate of Jones Hamilton and W. L. Nugent. His father was the Rev. Wm. B. Lacey, D. D. He commenced the practice of law at the age of 20, at Bayou Sara, La, the firm being Gourlny & Lacey. His parents moving to Okolona, Miss., in 1830, he went with them, established himself in the law, but on the outbreak of hostilities he volunteered in the Prairie Rifles, Eleventh Mississippi, and remained in the service of the confederacy until the close. He was elected to the legislature in 1868, and was a member of the last Mississippi constitutional convention. One of his brothers, George S. Lacey, was state senator from the Baton Rouge district several terms, and also city attorney of New Orleans. His sister, Mary E. Talliaferro, daughter-in-law of Judge Tallaferro, of the Louisiana supreme court some years ago, is a resident of New Orleans, and for many years a prominent teacher in the public schools of that city. One of his sisters, Isabella Lacey, was the mother of Judge Rufus Peckham, of the United States supreme court. His brother, H. B. Lacey, is editor of the Sun, and postmaster at Okolona, Hon. John F. Lacey, member of congress from Iowa, is his cousin. He has been prominently connected with the legal profession of Mississippi as a lawyer and was a bright Mason, being a Knight Templar. He was buried at Okolona in the family burying ground with Masonic honors, Dec. 29."
