Obituary Of Mr. William Kooiker William Kooiker, who passed away on Sunday afternoon, July 19, 1931, was a resident of Sioux County for many years. He was born at Runderwolt (!), Netherlands, on December 28, 1861.
In 1886 he came to America for the first time and stayed for 5 years. He then returned to Holland and was married to Clara Kooiker on February 7, 1891. Their home awaiting them in America; they crossed the waters and took up their residence on a fine farm three miles northeast of Middleburg. For slightly over forty years they lived on that farm.
Eight children were born to them there, seven of whom are still living in this neighborhood. One child preceded him in death on March 27, 1901.
Mr. Kooiker was a devoted father and a sincere Christian man, placing religion above all else.
He helped to organize the Christian Reformed church of Middleburg and was actively engaged there, serving both as elder and deacon for many years. He had been ailing for the last two years and had weakened considerably during that time. Yet his end came quite hastilty; he was bedridden for only about ten days. Two months ago he took up his residence in Hull.
At the time of his death he had reached the age of 69 years, six months and 21 days. He leaves his wife, seven children and thirteen grandchildren to mourn his death.
