William David Carey was known as David. This caused him problems throughout his life because the Army and some papers listed him as William and others listed him as David. As a result, he refused to allow his three daughters to be called by their middle names.

    W. David Carey - FALLS CHURCH, VA.



    FALLS CHURCH, Va. — Mr. W. David Carey, 76, died Monday, November 8, 2004, at INOVA Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, VA, with his family by his side.



    He was a son of the late Albert Thomas and Lucy Jane Morris Carey. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, A.T. Carey Jr. and Charles B. Carey; and one grandson, Michael Boaz.



    Mr. Carey was born in Jonesborough, TN, on February 16, 1928. He married Eva Pearl Stoots on November 19, 1949. They lived in Jonesborough and Kingsport before moving to Springfield, VA (13 miles south of Washington, D.C.) in May 1964.



    He worked at the Kingsport Press until 1963 and for the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in Washington, DC, until his retirement in 1988.



    He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during WWII. He received a Victory Medal and Army of Occupation Medal Japan.



    Surviving his wife, Eva Pearl Stoots Carey, of the home; three daughters and their families: Cynthia and Keith McDaniel, Pam Boaz and Vickie Carey and Gary Holland; seven grandchildren: Amy Boaz, Cassandra McDaniel, Aaron Boaz, Rhianna McDaniel, Bryon McDaniel, Sean McDaniel and Aidan Holland.



    Graveside services for Mr. W. David Carey will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 12, 2004, at Maple Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Dillow-Taylor Funeral Home from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Friday, November 12, 2004, prior to the graveside service. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
