Theresa Reid was baptised on 30th May 1835 at Monasterevin in County Kildare, daughter of Mary Reid, formerly Dennan, and her husband Michael Reid, a mason. Around 1851, Theresa emigrated to New York, following her brother Joseph who had emigrated about a year earlier. They were later joined by several other siblings and their widowed mother, and the 1855 census finds the family living in the city of New York. Theresa at this time was described as a cloak maker. In 1870 she was still living in the city with her mother and sisters Agnes and Ann, and Ann's daughter Elizabeth, and working as a sewing machine operator.
Theresa's mother died in 1884. The 1900 census find Theresa and her sister Agnes (neither of whom married) both boarding with a German family at 337 East 62nd Street in Manhattan. Agnes died in 1901.
Theresa then went to live with her niece, Elizabeth Cucksley, who was daughter of Theresa's late sister Ann. Theresa appears in the 1910 living with the Cucksley family at 170 East 71st Street.
Theresa died in Manhattan on 2nd March 1913, aged 77. She was buried at New York's Calvary Cemetery.

Whilst the ages for Theresa and Agnes are wrong, the fact that neither have been found elsewhere in this census and the coincidence of two unmarried Theresa and Agnes Reids living together, with Agnes doing a very similar job to that they were known to have done is sufficient to be reasonably confident that this is them. Perhaps their landlords filled in the form on their behalf.
