[Since the year is missing from the vital records, it is not clear what grounds the editors had for supposing 1739. Perhaps the ordering of the records in the original document? However, neither is it explained in this source how 1740 was arrived at, implying, as it does, that she was born some number of weeks or months after the decease of her father. Besides the fact that the birth record contains no indication that Silence was born posthumously, the marriage date in 1756 also favors the earlier date. But there is nothing conclusive to support either one.]
