Class of 1913, Hollins College, Hollins, Virginia. Lived in Evanston, Illinois after marriage. Died in a car crash. Some family dishes, also in the car, were unscathed.

From "Family Dinners," unpublished typescript by her daughter Charlotte Erskine Woods: "After Grandmother Heilman had her Burt Lake cottage built in the summer of 1915, she arrived for a vacation with my mother and the next oldest daughter, Lura. None of them cooked. As my mother told the tale, rather than go hungry, she learned to cook on the available wood stove; after that, she was ready for any kitchen. This was one of the oft-repeated tales in our family lore which pointed up my mother's spirit and the general ineptitude of her mother and sisters. "Aunt Lura had to lie down after scraping the carrots.""
