    AKRON, Ohio - Rev. Robert William (Godden) Markley Sr., 78, was a man who chose to serve his heavenly Father, Monday, Sept. 22, 2003, he entered into the arms of his Lord Jesus.

    He was the president of his class at Huntington College and he pastored 10 churches. He mentored several young men in the ministry, one who now pastors a large church in Columbus, Ohio, and the other who is a professor at Liberty Theological Seminary where Markley's grandson, , now prepares for the ministry. Markley's son, , named after grandfather, , pastors a church in central Ohio.

    He was a devoted husband to for 58 years. His children are . He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

    The family expresses gratitude to the staff at Wickliffe Country Place.

    A celebration of Markley's life will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Newcomer-Farley Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd., Akron, Ohio. Family and friends may call from 10 a.m. until service time.
