[Allyn] "ROBERT, Salem, 1637, adm. of the ch. 15 May 1642, had John, and Sarah there bapt. Sunday foll. and Mary, 19 Nov. 1648; in 1658 rem. to New London, and to the then adjoin. town of Norwich at its first settlem. 1659; but, high as is her authority on such a point, I hesitate to adopt Miss Caulkins's opin. that, intermed. betw. Salem and New London, he was of Saybrook. Tho. honor. with the office of constable at Norwich 1669, he went back to N. L. and there d. 1683, were part of his farm preserves in the harbor the name of Allyn's point. Other ch. beside those at Salem he had, as Hannah and Deborah, both prob. at N. L. Sarah m. 17 Feb. 1659, George Geer; Hannah m. Thomas Rose; and Deborah was unm. at d. of f."

"Robert Allyn, b. about 1608. Immigrant to America 1637. Lived in Salem, Mass., 1637-1651. United with the church 1642. Removed to New London, Ct., 1651. Sec. General Court of Conn., 1657. One of the first settlers of Norwich, Conn., 1659. Removed to Allyn's Point where a tract of land had been granted him. Died 1683, aged 75 years [since there is apparently no death record, it is not clear where this age at death comes from]." [Shown as son of "Edward Allyn, Lord High Sheriff of London in 1620"]

Robert Allyn born in England about 1616 [no explanation, presumably assuming at least 21 when he emigrated in 1637?], d. New London before 20 Sep 1683 [probate documents], m. Sarah --- who survived him. Distribution of estate 5 Dec 1683 to heirs: the widow, John Allyne, George Geres, Thomas Parkes, and Deborah Allyn [Second listing of heirs also mentions Thomas Roase].

- There is no mention of a Robert Allyn (or Alleyn) as a son of Edward Alleyn, esq. of Hatfield Peverell. Cooch's book lists Robert as the son of Edward Allyn, Lord High Sheriff of London, but if true, this Edward Allyn does not appear to be the same as Edward Alleyn, esq. of Hatfield Peverell.
