Rebecca Harrow was born on 2nd February 1821 at Carshalton in Surrey, daughter of a servant named Rebecca Harrow and a millwright named Benjamin Manning.

When Rebecca was 25 years old she married a whitesmith and bell hanger named Richard Harvey Melvin. They were married in the Westminster area of London. They had at least two children. The 1851 census finds them living at 10 Deans Place in the St Pancras area to the north of London.

Rebecca and Richard have not been traced between 1851 and 1871. By 1871 they had left the London area and moved to Great Malvern in Worcestershire, where they appear in both the 1871 and 1881 censuses. Rebecca died in 1883, aged 62. Richard outlived her by about eleven years and remarried the following year.

This baptism has been linked to the Rebecca Harrow who married Richard Harvey Melvin on the basis that their marriage certificate names her father as Benjamin Manning, whilst in the censuses after her marriage Rebecca consistently claimed to have been born in Carshalton around 1821.
