Emerson, Nathan[i]ell, s. of Ebenazer and Suzanna, Mar. 31, 1704.
[This is a confusing record. The marriage for Ebenezer Emerson and Bethia Parker (p. 332) is dated 27 May 1707, over three years after this birth. There is no record for an earlier marriage for Ebenezer, nor is one listed in the various sources I have seen. The marriage of Bethia's sister Susanna to Joseph Underwood (p. 413) has the exact same date of 27 May 1707. Bethia and Susanna's father's name is Nathaniel Parker. Ebenezer's father is Joseph Emerson of Mendon. Various possible explanations might be:
    1. Ebenezer had an earlier wife named Susanna, of whom no record has been found. Nathaniel was her son. Bethiah was Ebenezer's second wife. I find no sources that suggest this, but seems the most likely.
    2. The town clerk got confused recording the marriages of the two sisters, and recorded the date of Bethia's marriage, and the name of Nathaniel's mother, incorrectly. Nathaniel is Bethiah's son, and they married in early 1704, not in 1707 as recorded, apparently the choice of Source:Cutter, William Richard. Historic Homes and Places and Genealogical and Personal Memoirs Relating to the Families of Middlesex County, Massachusetts, p. 4:1539.
    3. Only the name of the mother of Nathaniel was recorded incorrectly. It is Bethiah, and his parents eventually married to make him legitimate.
    4. Nathaniel was illegitimate, possibly his mother was Bethia's sister Susanna Parker, possibly somebody else. Everything is recorded as it happened.
