    Nathan married 10 Jan 1809, in Rockbridge Co., Va to Jane Campbell, daughter of John & Martha (Vanskoy) Campbell. [Jane's page says she is the daughter of John Campbell and Mary Smith, needs research]. Nathan & his sister, Martha "Patsey" (Patton) Campbell married brother & sister. In 1814, Nathan & Jane traveled by covered wagon from Rockbridge Co., Va to Brown Co., Ohio. Nathan bought the Sam McNown farm. Nathan was a farmer & money maker & Brown Co., Ohio proved to be too slow for him.

    In 1834, Nathan moved his entire family & located in Belle Plain Twp., Marshall County, Illinois. Nathan was one of Belle Plain's first settlers. In 1850, John & Jane along with five children continue to live in Belle Plain Twp. John farms for a living. Jane died in Nov of 1850. John laid out a small village on 13 March 1856. The towns people named the village Pattonsburg after Nathan. In 1860, the town contained a dozen houses, store, post office, blacksmith shop & school house; with a population of 30-40 people. The people of the area referred to Nathan as "Father Patton."

    Nathan died 24 Jan 1863, at the age of 78. He was buried next to Jane in Martin cemetery, in Belle Plain Twp., Marshall County, Ill.
