Mrs. Merettia Joan Brown, 74, died Tuesday April 5, 2011 in Kingman, Arizona, following complications due to a sudden illness.
Mrs. Brown was born September 12, 1936 in Horton, Kansas, and was raised in Ozawkie, Kansas, where she graduated high school. She was the daughter of Harold and Ethel Pelton.
She met and married Donald Brown of Valley Falls, Kansas, in 1955 and together they had 6 children. In the course of her life, while raising six children she also worked as a bank teller, was an active den mother for cub scouts and later obtained her Real Estate license.
Following the retirement of her husband they moved from Victorville, California, to Meadview, Arizona, from where they enjoyed traveling in their 5th wheel trailer and socializing with many friends.
Mrs. Brown was a member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary, Post 2924, in Victorville and was active with Post 11014 in Meadview.
She was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband, Donald, six children, Tony Brown of Portland, Oregon, Jay Brown of Victorville, California, Tina McFarland and husband, John, of Apple Valley, California, Monte (Skip) Brown and wife, Karen, of Bend, Oregon, Phil Brown and wife, Tiffany, of Apple Valley, California, and Jackie Leach and husband, Mike, of Olathe, Kansas. She also leaves behind fourteen grandchildren and her sister Vada Adams with husband, Billie, of Topeka, Kansas.
Memorial service was at the VFW Hall in Meadview, Arizona, on April 23. Burial in Valley Falls Cemetery, Valley Falls, Kansas. Memorials to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Women's Auxiliary.
