His godfather was Ignacio Collado. His parents attended his wedding.

He was separated from his wife María by 1929, having apparently taken up with Josefina Díaz de Artigas after forming a company together in the late 1920s. The two only became publicly involved following the death of Josefina's husband.[1]

His work with Josefina at the Teatro Infanta Isabel in 1930s was some of the most important in Second Republic Spain.
