    PFC Malvin Leroy Brown
Birth: 11 Oct 1920 Baltimore, Baltimore City, Maryland, USA
Death: 6 Aug 1945 (aged 24) Douglas County, Oregon, USA
Burial: Mount Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn Park, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, USA
    Memorial #: 150264915
Bio: An Honor 70 Years Late
A ceremony to posthumously honor Private 1st Class Malvin L. Brown, a member of the 555th Parachute Infantry Battalion (known as the “Triple Nickles”), was held at his gravesite
in Mt. Calvary Cemetery near Baltimore. It has been 70 years since Brown’s death. He died in service to his country after falling from a tree during a fire jump near Roseburg, Oregon. Unfortunately, because of racial issues in the United States’ armed forces of the 1940s, Brown’s military service went nearly unrecognized. His death was the first recorded smokejumper fatality. Members of his family attended the ceremony as did officials from the Forest Service.
