The Gillum family lived at Morgue off old Route 15 according to Mary Young Lawson.

Identity

In the 1880 census, the James and Louisa Gillum family includes what appears to be 2 sets of twins:

  • Susannah and Jemima, both age 15
  • Malvara and Jula Ann, both age 13

In both cases, only one of these children appears in this family in the 1870 census and the other cannot be found in the 1870 census.

It is possible that there were 2 sets of twins and their names were missed from the 1870 census, or that one of each twin was being cared for by a relative at the time. Another possibility is that Susanna and Malvary were adopted into the family between the 1870 and 1880 censuses. The latter is suggested by the fact that Malvary's death record identifies her parents as Ira and Malvery Gillum[1] - but this could just be an error.
