Luther Ray Langford, 92, of Prescott, Ariz., went to heaven on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, after battling heart problems. He was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, neighborhood handyman and best friend.
Luther was born on Dec. 27, 1920, in Henrietta, Texas. He and his family moved to Prescott in 1963. He was a World War II Navy First Class Seaman veteran. He worked for Lone Star and Southern Union Natural gas companies for 35 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church for 50 years and attended the Cornerstone Church for the last three years. He loved gardening, making birdhouses, reading and watching Westerns, and cheering on the Diamondbacks baseball team. He volunteered at the Taylor Hicks Elementary Library for 20 years.
Luther is preceded in death by both of his parents, three siblings, and his wife of 64 years, Lou Emma. Luther is survived by his daughter Lu Ann (Carreras) and her husband Richard; two grandsons, Todd and his wife Miranda and Troy and his wife Patty; and two great-granddaughters, Merceda and Kambrya. Luther has two surviving brothers, Ken and Jimmy Langford; three sisters-in-law; and one brother-in-law.
Celebration of life will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, 2013, at Heritage Memory Mortuary, 131 Grove Ave., Prescott, Ariz. If you wish, please wear jeans or Western attire in remembrance of Luther.
