Kirk E. Peterson, of 1245S N. Stanley Road, Manistique (Thompson), Michigan passed away April 17, 2014 at the Schoolcraft Medical Care Facility in Manistique.
He was born April 28, 1940 in Isabella, Michigan the son of the late Vernon and Isabelle (Bougeois) Peterson. On October 19, 1957 he married JoAnn M. Martin in Manistique. They made their home and raised their family in Manistique and moved to Thompson in 1983. He was a member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, Manistique Moose Lodge, and the Michigan Association of Timbermen.
In his earlier years, he worked construction and was an operator. Kirk was a co-owner of Peterson Forest Products with his brother Kent. He worked with his sons and grandsons until he retired. In addition to being a logger he loved working in his shop creating woodcrafts for others. Kirk cherished the time spent with his family. He loved camping, hunting, horseshoes and played a good game of cribbage.
Kirk married Norma Soulliere on September 29, 2012. He enjoyed spending time visiting with her children, Alicia (Rob) Goodrich, Charla (Joel) Telgenhof, and Dona (Mike) Morris.
Kirk is survived by his wife, Norma Peterson of Thompson; sons, Mark (Patsy) Peterson of Manistique, Randy Peterson (Ann) of Thompson and John (Julie) Peterson of Marquette; brother, Ron (Helen) Peterson of Wetmore; daughter-in-law, Janet Peterson of Manistique; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren; along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, JoAnn (Martin) Peterson; brother, Kent Peterson, sister, Nona (Peterson) Sundin, and two grandsons, Cory and Ty Peterson.
Visitation will be held from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm, Friday, April 25, 2014 at the Messier-Broullire Funeral Home in Manistique. Father Glenn Theoret will officiate the celebration of Kirk's life at 12:00 pm following visitation at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Thompson Township Cemetery in the spring.
