    Case 25715: Joseph Wright 1732.

[A very contentious probate with many petitions and counter-pettions accusing various things, two administrators working separately and filing separate accounts. Many such details left out of this abstract for (relative) brevity.]
30 Oct 1732: Petition of Samuel Wood and Tho's Belknap both of Woburn who married Sarah And Elizabeth, two of the daughters of Mr Joseph Wright late of s'd Woburn Yeoman deceased, that deceased left Issue by several wives, including a son of about 30 years by a first wife, a daughter of about 2 years by another, and probably the widow Rachel will apply for administration, and that the petitioners wish to be notified before such an appointment be made.
27 Nov 1732: Widow desired her son might be appointed with her (if she might not administer alone) it appearing her son was unacceptable [presumably Mousell Wright] to discharge such a Trust administration was therefore granted to the widow in Conjunction with S. Wood.
7 Dec 1732: Inventory of Joseph Wright lat[e] of Woburn decesed £1950-19-2.
12 Mar 1732[/33]: Petition of Thomas Belknap contesting widow's claim to Negro man Scipio and cow and calf. After hearing the judge determined it was the deceased's intent that the widow have all of these.
23 Nov 1733: Petition of Samuel Wood and Thomas Belknap that payment of a bond to widow's father, Jabez Brooks, damages the estate to the benefit of the widow. From testimony, bond apparently given because much of husband's estate already disposed of, and if ever a widow, remainder was insufficient to giver her a full dower. Testimony of Jabez Brooks was that bond was given him for money owed him and there was no mention of his daughter having any profit from bond. Judge ruled against petition.
27 Jun 1737: Inventory of real estate [including parcel held jointly by Joseph and deceased wife Elizabeth but as he survived that wife judge ruled it to go to all his heirs not just Elizabeth's], £1968-13-5; set off to Rachel Wright widow for her dower; to Rachel the Minor Children of deceased land [directed by judge to be next to widow] plus payments to her by Mousel Wright, Sam'll Woods & Elizabeth his Wife, Thomas Belknap and Sarah his Wife; rest settled on heirs of age by mutual agreement.
16 Jul 1750: Appraisal of land set off to widow and divided to Mousel Wright only son of said deceased, to Sarah Belknap daughter, to heirs of Elizabeth Wood deceased one of the daughters, to Rachel Wright said deceaseds daughter. Signed by Mousel Wright, Timothy Brooks Guardian for James Wood, Jonathan Lwwrance Gardian for Esther Wood, Jacob Wright Guardian for Rachel Wright, Thomas Belknap, James Sawyer.
