    It is likely that Joseph Newberry died before 1686 when John Newberry of Chardstock (grandson of Robert Newberry of Yarcombe) wrote in behalf of his grandfather to Henry Wolcott of Windsor, Conn., for a certificate that Benjamin Newberry was living in order "to prove the life alive".
