The last record of the first Joseph is in the records of Hampshire County, Mass., where it appears that at the March Court in 1676, thirty-eight wives and maids, and thirty young men were fined, some "for wearing silk, and that in a flaunting; manner," and others "for long hair" and other Puritan extravagances. Among the offending young men was Joseph Grannis of Hadley.
