    "122 Joseph (Barker) was a farmer and shoemaker, moving to Brandon, Vt. in 1776, thence to Paris, N. Y. during the Rev. war, he was captured by the Indians but after two days march, he was able to escape by strategy. His wife being unable to keep up with the march was left behind and found shelter in an abandoned cellar, where that night their third child was born, help came the following day when a cousin hearing of the raid, came in search. Joseph was twice chosen selectman in Paris and held many other important offices, about 1803, he moved to Rome, N. Y. later moving to Byron, N. Y. where he died. He married 1-13-1777 Martha, dau. Capt. Thos. and Martha (_____) Tuttle. b. 1764; d. 5-11-1831."
