    QUAY 3 "On Saturday last [6/2] a requiem high mass was celebrated in the Catholic church here by the rev. Father McRae, for the repose of the soul of the late John Smith, who died suddenly in Barrie on April 30th, after a brief illness of two weeks. Mr. Smith, who had attained the ripe old age of seventy-four years, was born in the County of Clare, Ireland, and emigrated to this county in 1831. He set tled some miles north of Lake Simcoe near the Penetang road among the hills of Oro, then a trackless forest, where...he accumulated considerable wealth. About six years ago he removed to Mara where h e had become universally respected, being a man of sterling moral character and staunch integrety..."
