Facts and Events
John Smith was baptised on 27th August 1815 at North Mymms in Hertfordshire, son of Esther Smith formerly Sheffield and her husband William Smith, a labourer. William and Esther had married ten months earlier at Luton in Bedfordshire, a few miles to the north-west. The family stayed at North Mymms for a couple of years, having another son, George, baptised there in 1817. They then returned to Luton, settling in the Park Street area.
John appears in both the 1841 and 1851 census living there with his parents. In 1851 he was working as a rail labourer - although the railway did not reach Luton until 1858.
John has yet to be traced after the 1851 census.
