PUTNAM, John, s. John Jr. and Mary, (born) March 18 [June 27 dup.], 1766.
[Note: the compilers of the VRs confused two families by calling these two records duplicates when they are not. There were two families where the parents were John and Mary Putnam in Sutton at the same time and both had a son John in the year 1766. It turns out that one of the records does not say "Jr." but the published record would make one think both do, which is an error. A town copy online has the two births on p. 140 and p. 141. The birth on 27 Jun (p. 140) is to John and Mary (Col. John and Mary (Hall) Putnam), no Jr., while the birth on 18 Mar on p. 141 is to John Jr. and Mary (John and Mary (Comings) Putnam). The two families are listed in Source:Putnam, Eben. History of the Putnam Family in England and America : Recording the Ancestry and Descendants of John Putnam of Danvers, Mass., Jan, p. 267 for 27 June, p. 248 for 18 Mar, gets it right.]
